Ho Chi Minh City police are hunting for two men suspected of armed robbery at a local lottery ticket outlet last Sunday.
Officers affirmed on Wednesday that the two suspects reportedly stole VND95 million (US$4,166) from the Cong Thi Lottery Ticket Agent on Hong Bang Street in District 6.
The case has been submitted to the Criminal Police Division under the municipal Department of Police for further investigation.
According to preliminary information released by officials, the pair wore helmets and gauze masks as they approached the lottery ticket outlet by motorbike around 4:50 pm.
Customers at the venue reported that one of the suspects attempted to fire a warning shot but the weapon would not fire.
The suspect then pointed the gun at people in the venue to intimidate them while his accomplice used a hammer to break a glass cabinet and steal the money inside.
As by-standers attempted to intervene, the suspects fled the scene by motorcycle with the stolen money in hand.
Local police units investigating the scene discovered a bullet shell suspected to belong to a K59 (Makarov) pistol.
Officers are collecting statements from several witnesses and extracting footage from security cameras installed at the facility to support their ongoing investigation.
