Construction on expressway Ben Luc – Long Thanh starts today

Saturday, July 19, 2014, 12:42 GMT+7

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the expressway Ben Luc – Long Thanh linking Long An Province in the Mekong Delta with southern Dong Nai Province is being held today.

It is a major project with a total length of 57.1 km, which will be part of the national expressway from North to South.

The section of road has an investment capital of VND31.3 trillion or US$1.5 billion, which was announced at the ceremony held in the Can Gio District of Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

With four lanes, vehicles can run on the expressway at a maximum speed of 100 kph.

The road includes a total of 20 km of bridges, including the almost 3 km long Binh Khanh Bridge that crosses over Soai Rap River and the 3.2 km long Phuoc Khanh Bridge over the Long Tau River.

The road will facilitate transport between the Mekong Delta and the eastern section of southern Vietnam without passing through Ho Chi Minh City, thus helping to reduce traffic congestion on the current National Highway 1 in HCMC and National Highway 51 in Dong Nai.

The section of road will also connect with major sea ports in the south such as Thi Vai – Cai Me, Sao Mai – Ben Dinh, and the international airport Long Thanh. It will also link satellite urban zones that are planned around Ho Chi Minh City.

Once put into operation, the expressway will be part of the Asian Highway from Bangkok, Thailand via Phnom Penh, Cambodia to HCMC and Vung Tau in Vietnam.
