Authorities in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh have responded to the mixed feedback on their construction of a VND198 billion (US$8.8 million) entrance, which is claimed to be the largest of its kind nationwide upon completion.
Provincial leaders on Monday provided clarification of their vision for the project as a reply to differing public opinions, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The entrance to the province covers an area of 75,000 square meters, comprising several steel frames between 38 and 43 meters high.
The architecture is a combination of Quang Ninh’s two iconic destinations, the world heritage site Ha Long Bay and the sacred Yen Tu Pagoda.
The entrance will also help spread the province’s tourism slogan to visitors and local residents, expected to help Quang Ninh become one of Vietnam’s major provinces by 2020.
The construction is included in a project made up of a province entrance and a rest stop featuring tourist products, officials stated, adding that building work had begun in February 2016 with Hoang Ha Corporation chosen as the developer.
The structure embodies high social value and is expected to create a significant impression on visitors to the locality, contributing to the province’s tourist sector.
The rest area will house a dining section, a gas station, a vehicle maintenance facility, and a shopping space selling clean agricultural products.
The entire project will be implemented on an area of 139,000 square meters with investment totaling VND368 billion ($16.4 million) funded by the investor and the private sector.
