The Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) had 1,277 papers published in international journals between 2011 and 2014, the institution announced at a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City this week.
The number is a 1.6 percent rise compared with the 2006-2010 period, the university bloc said Thursday.
VNU-HCM had its works published in reputable journals like Nature Genetics, Angewandte Chemie, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
The quality of scientific researches done by researchers at the university group has also been highly evaluated by international experts, according to reports at the workshop.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, acting head of the Science and Technology Board of VNU-HCM, said the increase in quantity and quality of the researches is partly because of the adjustment in science and technology management.
Looking at targets for the near future, VNU-HCM is planning to set applied science as the nucleus to enhance the development of science and technology potential.
Besides, the institution will also tighten the connection between science and technology with local enterprises to strengthen technology transfers, as well as build up and develop research groups and centers for training and researching in Ho Chi Minh City.
VNU-HCM is a bloc comprising top-tier universities like the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City International University, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology, and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Law.
