Police in Hanoi have detained a Vietnamese woman who abducted a 13-month-old boy upon the request of her 60-year-old Taiwanese husband. The boy is his child with another Vietnamese woman. The boy’s mother is Dang Thi Huong, 42, of Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan District, who arrived in Taiwan in 2007 for work under a labor export contract. During her working time in Taiwan, Huong met a Taiwanese man, Wang Minh Chao, 60, in Kaohsiung City. Chao and Huong lived together as a husband and wife and as a result, Huong got pregnant. Huong returned to Vietnam in November 2011 and gave birth to a boy. About a year later, Chao had an affair with a different woman in Taiwan, and asked his new girlfriend to seek ways to kidnap the aforementioned son who was living in Vietnam. In December 2012, Nguyen Thi Sinh -- Chao’s new spouse -- returned to Vietnam and abducted the boy from Huong and brought him to her sister’s house in Hai Phong in northern Vietnam. After the abduction, Sinh, a native of northern Hai Phong City, came back to Taiwan and Chao paid her US$1,000 for the kidnapping. He had since paid Sinh’s sister VND7 million ($337) per month as remuneration for keeping and caring for his son. Early January 2013, Chao gave Sinh another $1,000 when she returned to Vietnam to seek ways to send the boy to Taiwan.  In March 2013, the boy’s mother reported the case to Hanoi police who, after launching an investigation, arrested Sinh and rescued the boy.
