In preparation for a large-scale mine action exercise in India next month, the Vietnamese military conducted anti-terror and demining drills in the northern province of Bac Ninh on Thursday.
The anti-terror and demining drill was carried out at the Sapper Brigade 229 training field to prepare soldiers for participation in the 2016 Peacekeeping Operations and Humanitarian Mine Action Field Training Exercise (FTX-2016), scheduled for March 2-8 in India.
The main content of the rehearsal included the cooperation between sappers and military medics during the demining process, in which the soldiers used different methods to detect and neutralize landmines.
Meanwhile, medics simulated the practice of emergency treatment after mine explosions.
The Vietnamese delegation to next month’s FTX-2016 Exercise consists of 27 members from the Sapper Command, Military Medics, Vietnam Peacekeeping Center, and other relevant agencies.
The joint exercise will be organized by India and Vietnam in the Indian city of Pune, with the attendance of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).
Through participation in the event, Vietnam hopes to highlight its role, position, and contribution to defense and military cooperation in the region.
ASEAN stands for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, a 10-member organization including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN and its eight Dialogue Partners, namely China, Japan, South Korea, the U.S., India, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, to strengthen security and defense cooperation for peace, stability, and development in the region.
