A Vietnamese ethnic horn, which is called tu va in Vietnamese, on August 14 was auctioned at 100,000 RMB (US$15,700) at an event held within the framework of the ongoing Miss World beauty pageant in China.
The horn, which was made by K’Tham, a village patriarch from the K’Ho ethnic group, was among the gifts that Vietnam’s representative Hoang My brought to the contest’s auction where proceeds will go to poor children.
“This tu va is a special gift from Vietnam. It is used as a tool in hunting, a musical instrument as well as to gather people,” My said at the event. “It is the symbol of authority and not many can make it sound. It is just for special people!”
The beauty also shared with fans on her Facebook page that Miss World organizers only picked up 12 gifts out of many donations from the pageant’s contestants and the Vietnamese horn was among those.
Besides the horn, the 24-year old also brought three rocks, symbolizing the northern, central and southern regions of Vietnam; a lotus painting made from rice; a photo of a terraced rice field taken in northwestern Vietnam; and a National Geographic book on Vietnam.
Together with My’s book, more than 100 books donated by contestants have been contributed to poor children via Miss World library.
