Sapa tourism town celebrates 110th anniversary

A ceremony to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Sapa tourism town was held at Sapa Stadium in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on November 2.

During the event, a wide range of activities took place, including folk music performances, traditional dances, and a review on the town’s journey from establishment to development.

Also, within the frameworks of the event, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism granted the certificates recognizing Sapa terraced field as a national landscape site, as well as local Dao Do minority group’s Put Tong ceremony and Giay minority group’s farming festival as intangible heritages.

Moreover, on the occasion of the anniversary, the construction of a three-wire cable car system in Sapa town to bring tourists to the roof of Indochina - the peak of Fansipan Mountain was also kicked off. The 7km-long cable system is the first of its kind in Vietnam and Asia. The system is designed with the maximum transport capacity of 2,000 people per hour and each cabin can carry 35 passengers.
