-- Lao Party Secretary General and President Choummaly Saynhasone welcomed Sunday a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee Dinh The Huynh, in Vientiane.

-- Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Vasilev Oresharski arrived Sunday in Hanoi to begin his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung.

-- Nguyen Thu Tram, 23, was Sunday put in police custody after she allegedly took a six-year-old girl out of a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City when the lost girl was looking for her mother a day earlier. Tram confessed to police that she did not intend to kidnap the girl but only to steal her earrings.

-- One person was killed while three others were seriously injured in a head-on crash between a truck and a passenger couch at the Nai Pass in the south-central province of Phu Yen on Sunday.

-- Thousands of trucks lined up over a six-kilometer section on the National Highway No.14 passing the Central Highlands city of Kon Tum after a truck got bogged down on the muddy road early in the morning.

-- The bus route No.35, intended to give foreign tourists a trip around downtown HCMC, is making VND100 million (US$4,760) worth of monthly losses as the average number of passengers is only 22 people a day, according to the bus operator.

-- Police are investigating camera footage to figure out the cause of the raging fire that engulfed a parking lot in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, and destroyed around 300 motorbikes there on Saturday.

-- Vietnam has faced nearly 20 antidumping lawsuits over the last two years and Vietnamese exporters had to give up on some traditional markets following these cases.

-- Vietnam exported 583,289 tons of rice in March, exceeding its target of 550,000 tons, and raked in more than $256 million, according to the Vietnam Food Association.

Lifestyle

-- MasterChef Vietnam, a reality cooking show, began its audition for the second season last weekend. The show will be on air from mid-July.

-- More than 1,000 students from universities and colleges across the central city of Hue on Sunday participated in a flashmob by the bank of the Huong River during one of the first activities leading to the 2014 Hue Festival, which will run from April 12 to 20.
