Ministry urged to construct national email system

Sunday, October 07, 2012, 21:26 GMT+7

The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications has just been assigned to work out a plan to build a national email system under a program to apply information technology to the operations of government bodies, the government said on its official website http://baodientu.chinhphu.vn this week.

The site quoted Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan as directing that the ministry report on the above task to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in the fourth quarter.

The vice premier also asked the ministry to “guide and urge” government bodies at the central and local level to frequently use emails in their work.

The safety and security of the email system and other platforms of government agencies must be ensured, Nhan noted, ordering that the ministry help central and local bodies with the promulgation of regulations on the management and use of internal email platforms.

The information bureau was requested to put forward and adopt solutions to cultivate the habit of using internal emails in daily work among government employees.

It said the IT infrastructure used in government agencies is increasingly improving, which serves as a solid base for the utilization of modern technology applications in general, and their internal email system in particular.

The ministry elaborated that computers were provided for over 90 percent of government employees in ministries and ministry-level bodies and about 68 percent of public servants at the local level till the end of 2011.

All of the ministries and minsitry-level bodies already put their government email system in use last year, while 94 percent of provinces and cities have had their own internal emails, all of which use the national domain .gov.vn, it added.
