A herd of deer are seen walking leisurely or lying comfortably on a street in what is believed to be Nara City in central Japan, with vehicles smoothly avoiding them and passers-by looking at the animals with amusement.

One of them even locked its horns against the plants in a pot on the sidewalk without any interference from the pedestrians, some of whom are busy taking pictures of the nice scene.

This is seemingly an annual phenomenon as the cute spotted deer seek for somewhere nice and cool to summer, U.S. news website MSN said.

Deer are now considered a national treasure in Japan, it added.

Nara is home to over 1,000 Sika deer, according to the UK’s Telegraph, which said “the deer were once considered sacred messengers of the gods by devotees of the Shinto faith and killing them was a capital offence.”
