Ho Chi Minh City has promised to assist Cambodia in operating a major hospital located in its capital.

A working delegation led by vice-chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu on Thursday conducted a visit to the Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital, a joint venture between Saigon Medical Investment JSC and Cambodia’s Sokimex Company.

The delegation included leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Department of Health, Department of Finance, Department of Planning and Investment, and heads of major hospitals.

The Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital was constructed in 2010 and put into operation in 2014 to meet the healthcare demands of local residents.

Before inaugurating the infirmary, 70 to 80 percent of ill people in Cambodia sought treatment at Cho Ray, the largest hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Following three years of operation, the Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital achieved positive revenue, human resources, and technology results.

Most doctors, nurses, and technicians are provided from major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City including Cho Ray, Tu Du, and Hung Vuong.

However, the infirmary now seems to be facing difficulties regarding investment capital, sluggish disbursement, and unstable human resources.

Vice-chairwoman Thu praised the accomplishments of the facility in recent years, stating that she has asked the Vietnamese prime minister to assist in securing capital investment.

Ho Chi Minh City will also consider providing a special loan for the Cambodian hospital, Thu continued.

During the business trip, the Vietnamese delegation also paid a visit to the Embassy of Vietnam in Phnom Penh.

According to vice-chairwoman Thu, Ho Chi Minh City will work with the embassy to build a good relationship with Cambodia.

Meeting with the visiting officials, Pa Socheatevong, Governor of Phnom Penh, expressed his intention to visit the Vietnamese metropolis to discuss cooperation between the two cities.

The two parties agreed to enhance ties in trade, traffic infrastructure, and tourism, as well as develop the Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital.

Ho Chi Minh City is a partner, friend, and close neighbor of Phnom Penh, the governor stated.
