The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has sent a delegation to Vietnam to inspect some of its sporting facilities before the country’s bid for the right to host the 2019 Asian Games (Asiad).

>> Vietnam to host 2019 Asiad: for or against? Wei Jizhong, Honorary Life Vice President of OCA, on Wednesday examined some stadiums in Hanoi, including the My Dinh National Sporting Complex, after working with the city’s People’s Committee regarding the plan to bid for the Asiad. The delegation will also meet with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan to discuss the detailed plan during the bidding process. Vietnam is currently in a race to host the 2019 Asiad with Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Taiwan. The final nation/territory will be nominated during the OCA meeting between November 7 and 9 in Macau. In Vietnam, the bid for Asia’s largest sporting event has become a controversial topic due to the huge expense required. It is expected to cost as much as US$150 million to host the event, according to a plan developed by Hoang Vinh Giang, deputy chairman and general secretary of the Olympic Council of Vietnam. The last event was held in Guangzhou, China from November 12, to November 27, 2010, and the next is scheduled to be held in Incheon, South Korea between September 19 and October 4, 2014.
