The Onion Cellar, an organization promoting alternative music and films, is presenting its film festival titled “Sad and beautiful World” in Hanoi.

According to the organizer, the event was named after the Sparklehorse’s namesake song and is held to celebrate life in all its hardships and wonders and ‘brief glimpses of beauty’.

The event will screen 13 films spanning various styles, lengths and subject matters including depression, autism, schizophrenia, suicide, natural disasters, uncertainty, death, hope, peace, freedom, and love, and beauty.

The films are Japan in a Day, Matthew’s Laws, As I was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty, It’s Such a Beautiful Day, I am Breathing, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, Sleep Furiously, Gallivant, Sound to Music, England your England and The Voyagers.

They are showcased until November 24 at Hanoi Cinematheque at 22A Hai Ba Trung Street in Hoan Kiem District, Red Room @ Hanoi Rock City at 27/52 To Ngoc Van Street in Tay Ho District, The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD) at 51 Tran Hung Dao Street in Hoan Kiem District, Work Room Four at Top floor - Building E - 9 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hoan Kiem District and Manzi Art Spce at 14 Phan Huy Ich in Ba Dinh District.
