Vietnam and Indonesia challenged each other again on Tuesday after a 0 – 0 friendly on the latter’s home soil last month, but they both failed to improve the outcome after the match ended in another goalless draw. Vietnam’s coach Phan Thanh Hung made nine changes to the team, though he maintained the 4-1-4-1 formation as in the first leg friendly, while the away team only used four new players. The teams both lost their playmakers at the 35th minute as Cong Vinh was substituted by Viet Thang after having his right instep tramped by an Indonesian defender. Indonesian veteran Elie Aiboy too had to leave the pitch with similar injury. Vietnam dominated both halves but failed to score any goals as the players appeared too hurried at decisive moments. The game became much more boring towards the end, and the players were on the verge of fighting each other at the 81st minute. Sy Cuong and Bach Him, who substituted for Elie Aiboy, encountered each other and the Indonesian player reacted aggressively after the incident. Dinh Dong then butted into the chest of an Indonesian player, sending the two sides rushing into each other. Fortunately referee Phung Dinh Dung and his assistants intervened in time. Speaking after the match, coach Hung said what failed to satisfy him was that the Vietnamese players wasted their scoring chances. “But generally I’m pleased with the match. This is not the time when the players are in their best form,” he told reporters. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s coach Nil Maizar praised his players for their active playing. “Indonesia has successfully neutralized the dominance of Vietnam, and created some chances. “The players have performed up to 80 percent of their ability,” he said.
