Tropical to hit Philippines’ Palawan, heading for Vietnam

The tropical depression formed off the Philippines’s Mindanao Island will sweep through the country’s Palawan Island tonight before entering the East Sea and targeting Vietnam, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported.

The storm is forecast to directly affect the Truong Sa (Spartly) archipelago before heading for the coast between the south central and southern regions, the center warned.  At 7 am ICT today, November 13, the depression was centered at 10.6 degrees latitude north and 120.4 degrees longitude east, in a waters north off the Philippines's Sulu Island, with winds near the eye reaching up to 61 kph, and squalls of 62-88 kph. The depression is moving west-northwest at a speed of 25-30 km and will slash Mindanao tonight. It will later enter the East Sea and likely upgrade into a storm. Due to the depression’s circulation, the southern East Sea, including the waters east of Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, will have rough sea and winds as strong as 74 kph and squalls of 989-102 kph starting tomorrow noon, November 13. At the same time, the Gulf of Tonkin will also experience rough sea and winds of 29-49 kph and gusts of up to 61 kph. At 7 am Thursday, November 14,  the possible storm will be located at 11.6 degrees latitude north and 114.2 degrees longitude east, in a waters north off Truong Sa. Winds near the eye may reach 74 kph, together with gusts of 75-102 kph.
