Filmmakers in Vietnam will have the chance to explore the film industry via a course about short film making due to start next week.

Named ‘The Art of Short Film Making,’ the workshop is scheduled to kick off on March 17 at the Saigon International Film School (SIFS) in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Announced on the school’s website last week, the event will run over two days from 2:00 pm March 17 and then again on March 18 at the school, and promises young filmmakers the opportunity to learn from an international professional.

Going for three hours each day, the free-of-charge workshop will be hosted by Heinz Hermanns, founder and chief executive officer of Interfilm Berlin.

The event is organized by SIFS, Interfilm Berlin, which is an international short film festival, and supported by the Goethe Institute Vietnam.

With 30 years of experience in the industry, Hermanns will discuss topics related to short films, including how to make a good flick, advice on participating in a film festival, and more.

“If you are currently struggling with a short film project, this is the chance to have recommendations from the German expert,” the website said.

Heinz Hermanns has traveled the world and held scores of inspirational exchanges on film direction with filmmakers and cinema buffs.

He took part in a similar exchange in Vietnam last year and before that in 2012.

With almost 7,000 entries from over 100 countries and a festival program boasting more than 400 films, Interfilm Berlin, which was founded in 1982, is one of the largest and oldest international short film festivals, according to its website.

The films it screens range from live-action to animation, documentaries and experimental films right up to virals, commercials and music videos.
