Vietnamese police have detected 11 cars transporting tourists from Thailand to Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri without temporary number plates granted by local authorities.
On October 13, the Hai Lang Traffic Police Station under the provincial Police Department stopped a group of 11 cars with Thai number plates on National Highway 1 in the province. The group of cars had brought tourists from Thailand to Vietnam through the Cha Lo Border Gate in the central province of Quang Binh, under a permit from the Ministry of Transport, police said. The cars had been guided by Hanoi-based Nha Viet Trade and Services Development Co., Ltd. along a planned itinerary from Cha Lo to Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces and Da Nang City before reaching the Lao Bao border gate in Quang Tri. The tour began on October 12 and is expected to last until October 16. However, the owners of the cars had not registered for temporary number plates in accordance with prevailing regulations. Therefore, the police reported the infringement and issued fines of VND5 million (US$236) per vehicle to the owners. The police have requested that the owners contact the Quang Tri transport authorities to apply for temporary number plates for their vehicles so that they can resume their journey in Vietnam.
