Traffic warnings to be given on street info panels

Friday, November 30, 2012, 12:37 GMT+7

Remote traffic warnings will be provided to travelers through the colored arrows and other messages on the 14 traffic info panels in Ho Chi Minh City from December 1, said the Road Infrastructure Management and Development Office. When the arrow indicating a traffic direction is red, this means drivers will face problems such as heavy traffic jams, flooding, or blockages due to accidents if they keep going in that direction, said Dau An Phuc, the head of the office, which is under the city Transport Department. When an arrow is yellow, this means that travelers are heading towards a crowded traffic area, while a blue arrow, means traffic is clear. At the same time, specific messages about the traffic situations indicated by the arrows will also be displayed on the panel, Dau said. Such arrows and information will form a basis for drivers to decide on which route they should follow for their best convenience, he said. Besides the 14 current traffic information panels on main roads, the department will ask permission from the city People’s Committee to install more panels on other major routes next year to be able to provide more traffic information to travelers, he added.
