Society

-- Though the road traffic death rate in the first ten months of this year has dropped 3.88 percent, or 290 people, year on year, it remains high, with a monthly average of 718 people killed in traffic accidents, according to the office of the National Traffic Safety Committee.

-- Vietnam sent over 99,400 workers, including 31,772 women, abroad, mostly to Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia, in the first 10 months of this year, surpassing the 2015 target by 4.6 percent, according to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs. Last year, Vietnam sent a record high of 105,840 workers overseas, 10 percent over the yearly target.

-- Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Baloghdi Tibor told Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee Le Hung Dung that Hungary will support the Mekong Delta city in establishing an oncology hospital to serve the entire delta at a meeting on Thursday. During the meeting, Director-General of the Hungarian National Institute of Oncology Kasler Miklos stated that Hungary’s government will ink a framework agreement with Vietnam on accelerating the construction of the hospital within the last two months of this year.

-- About US$19.3 billion worth of foreign capital was channeled into over 2,300 foreign-invested projects in Vietnam in the first ten months of this year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. About $12.42 billion was pumped into 1,658 newly-registered projects, up 24.8 percent against the same period last year, while the remaining $6.86 billion was added to 667 operational projects, up 83.2 percent year on year.

-- The Ministry of Transport has collected nearly VND4.4 trillion ($196 million) by directing 110 state-run firms it is managing, including seven corporations and 103 affiliates and associated companies, to divest from non-core business.

-- Vietnam Motor Show 2015, the country's largest auto exhibition, kicked off at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, with 18 top automotive brands and a record 150 models. The event will last until Sunday.
