A man from the UK, who was last seen last week in Fansipan Mountain in the northern Vietnamese province of Lao Cai, has reportedly gone missing.

Aiden Webb, a 23-year-old from Cambridge, has been nowhere to be found since June 2, when he was seen in Fansipan Mountain, the highest peak in Indochina located nine kilometers southwest of Sa Pa Town in Lao Cai Province in northwestern Vietnam.

His aunt Lisa Shaw Webb posted Aiden’s picture on Facebook on Sunday calling for help to locate her missing nephew, and as of Monday afternoon the photo has been liked by 17,000 users and shared by over 50,000 others.

“I'm sad to announce that my nephew Aiden Webb has gone missing in Vietnam....He was last seen 3 days ago at Fansipan Mountain…,” the photo caption reads.

“Please could everyone share this picture as he [has] lots of friends who travel in this area… the quicker we get his out, the quicker he can be found,” Lisa wrote.

“As a family we are trying hard to locate him, his dad and my other brother are flying out to Vietnam tonight [Sunday] at 6 pm to help in the search… with the help from social media we can we band together and search for Aiden,” the aunt continued.

Lisa said that her family was willing to pay anything to look for Aiden, while calling for Facebook users to spread the information on social media.

She added that she would make contact in the fastest possible time with everyone who provides information as to Aiden’s whereabouts.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday afternoon, Nguyen Van Thai, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Sa Pa, said local authorities have been informed of the missing man, and that many people have been dispatched to search for Aiden Webb in vain so far.

Nguyen Quang Vinh, director at Hoang Lien National Park where the mountain is located, said, “Hoang Lien National Park received a report from Aiden’s girlfriend early Saturday that the man had explored the mountain by himself and later gone missing.”

“According to the park’s regulations, all visitors who would like to explore Fansipan Mountain have to inform Hoang Lien National Park and set off in groups,” the director added. “Upon receiving the report, the park has worked with the People’s Committee of Sa Pa to carry out a search and rescue mission since Saturday.”

According to Vinh, the team is still searching for the missing man.
