-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called for Hungary to support Vietnam in expanding cooperation with European Union (EU) countries and Free Trade Area negotiations with the EU.

-- Two Vietnamese senior officials have been awarded the Lao State’s Freedom (Issara) Order for their contributions to the Vietnam-Laos special relationship, as well as the two countries’ inspection agencies.

-- Vietnam backs the non-proliferation and the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien, Director of the Military Strategy Institute, has said.

-- Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh aside of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat in Seam Riep, Cambodia, on November 15.

-- Thousands of local residents in Quang Nam and the neighboring cities of Da Nang and Quang Ngai were Thursday shocked by a quake occurring in the Song Tranh 2 area at 2h24pm. The concern was exacerbated as a rumor that the SongTranh 2 dam for hydropower generation has been broken.

-- Many areas in Ho Chi Minh City were Thursday flooded due to a 1.58m high tide.

-- The Provincial Committee of Dong Nai Thursday signed a petition to the Politburo to call for a suspension on the 6 and 6A hydropower projects in the province as they may put severely negative impact on the environment and local neighborhood.

-- A truck was Thursday traveling pass the Le Quy Don Street in Buon Ma Thuot City when it overturned and released dozens of round logs into the ground. The rolling logs damaged some nearby houses and it turned out later that those are smuggled wood without valid papers.

Business

-- Professor Roger Myerson, winner of the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, Thursday delivered a speech at the Hanoi Foreign Trade University during a Vietnam trip organized by the International Peace Fund and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.
