Four young men who stole three dogs and sold them for only US$45 have turned themselves in to police after causing death for three youths who chased them in Ho Chi Minh City last Saturday.

>> 3 youths die while chasing dog thieves in Vietnam’s hub >> 10 get up to 3 years for beating dog thieves to death>> Which is more valuable: human or pet life?>> Dog thief clubbed to death by villagers Of the four dog thieves, Ho Van Hieu, 20, and Ho Thanh An, 19, handed themselves in to police in Cu Chi District on the evening of June 15, while the two others, Pham Ngoc Thuan, 27, and Le Minh Hau, 19, showed up on June 16 morning.

The four, who are all from Hoc Mon District, decided to come forward after knowing that three young people who ran after them on June 14 died during the chase, and after being persuaded by their families, police said. Hiep has been charged with murder and stealing property, while the others have been indicted for stealing property. All of them have admitted to stealing three dogs in Cu Chi’s Tan Thanh Dong Commune and causing death for the three young people. They told police that they had sold the dogs to a woman at Quang Trung Market in Go Vap District for VND960,000 ($45) and shared the amount. Thuan told investigators that he asked the other three to go with him from Hoc Mon to Cu Chi to steal dogs on June 14 afternoon. They then rode two motorbikes, bringing along with them a homemade stun gun, some sacks and tape, to Tan Thanh Dong, where they stole three dogs weighing 45 kilograms in total. While they was running away from the commune, three locals –  Huynh Kim Bao, 19,  Pham Nguyen Quoc Huu, 19, and Nguyen Minh Phuong, 18 – ran after them on a scooter.  When the locals caught up with the thieves, An and Hieu continued fleeing while Hieu pulled out the stun gun and fired an arrow back at the chasers. Bao, who rode the scooter, ducked the shot, which then hit Phuong, who was sitting between Bao and Huu. Phuong fell off the bike, causing an imbalance to the vehicle that led to Bao’s loss of control over the vehicle. Consequently, the bike crashed into the wall of a house on Nguyen Kim Cuong Street in Tan Thanh Dong.   The crash killed Bao on the spot. Local residents took Huu and Phuong to a hospital, where they died later that day. Police seized the scooter of the victims and three 60-cm-long knives from the scene. All three men died from multiple injuries, including cranial traumatism, police cited forensic examination reports as saying.
