National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with former Party and State officials in Hanoi on March 28 to listen to their opinions on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution. Hung, who is also Chairman of the Committee on drafting amendments to the 1992 Constitution, stressed that the collection of public feedback on the draft amendments is a democratic move, upholding the people’s right to mastery and role as the master of society in deciding key national issues. The activity also aims to pool brainpower and produce a draft revised Constitution that fully reflects the will and aspirations of the people, he added. According to him, over the past three months, ministries, departments, localities and mass associations nationwide have held nearly 30,000 seminars and meetings for the people to express their ideas. A total of nearly 20 million opinions on the draft amendments have been collected. He said besides a majority of opinions approving the draft amendments, there are a large number of recommendations on adjustments and supplements to further improve the document’s quality. The veteran Party members and former officials expressed their high consensus on the collection of public opinions on the amended Constitution. They also contributed practical and quality ideas to the draft amendments. The same day, President Truong Tan Sang, head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, chaired the committee’s 10 th session in Hanoi. The event was to discuss a report on the outcomes of the public polls on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitutions.
