-- Vietnam is Russia’s diplomatic priority, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday at a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during the premier’s first visit to the European country to attend the two-day ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Sochi that concludes today.

-- The U.S. will assess weapon purchase requests case by case, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel said on Thursday at a press conference to announce U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam next week, in response to questions on whether the president would lift bans on lethal weapon sales to the Southeast Asian country.
