“Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh” (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass), a Vietnamese film by Vietnamese American Victor Vu, is currently the focal point in discussions on social media in Vietnam, after it was officially released last week.
Adapted from the namesake novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh, a best-selling author who is known for children’s stories, the film has wowed viewers with its beautiful scenes set in Phu Yen, a province in the south-central region.
The film has been a hit since it premiered at local cinemas on Friday.
The movie that tells a story about two brothers in a coastal village in the late 1980s has also received positive feedback from the audience, who said it brings them back to their childhood.
After the release, a lot of reviews and comments have been shared on social networks, expressing how viewers were impressed by the film.
Before it was released, “Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass” was named the winner of “Features Films of 2015” at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Fujian Province, China, on September 26.
At the festival, foreign viewers also exhibited their impression seeing the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam through the movie. Duong Thanh Xuan, a local who helped the film crew find locations for filming, said director Vu was strict in choosing the places for his shoots, as the movie was set in the context of 30 years ago.
