Former Politburo member Ho Duc Viet passes away

Ho Duc Viet, former Politburo member, passed away on Friday evening at the age of 66 at the Central Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi, after suffering from serious illness for a long time.

The funeral of Ho Duc Viet, also former Secretary of the Party Central Committee and former head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, will be held as a State one.

His coffin will be placed at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi. The funeral will be officially kicked off tomorrow there.

Viet was born on August 13, 1947 in Quynh Doi Commune, Quynh Luu District, in the central province of Nghe An.

He was a member of the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th tenures of the Party Central Committee and a Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee -10th tenure (2006-2010).

He was also a National Assembly delegate to the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th NA meetings.

Viet was granted a first-class Independence Order, first-class Labor Medal, and a 40-year Party membership badge, among others.
