Diwali Gala 2016 will be hosted by the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam (INCHAM) and promises to be the biggest festival in the year for the Indian community in the Southeast Asian country, INCHAM said in a press release last week.
It is expected to bring joy to participants through Bollywood performances as well as authentic cuisine from the ethnically diverse Indian sub-continent, free flow drinks, and exciting raffle prizes.
Organizers have invited Indian playback singers Raja Hasan and Pragya Sodhani to rock the night and make it a memorable event.
As one of INCHAM’s annual opportunities, the festival will have part of its proceeds donated to charity, INCHAM said.
The event is expected to attrract a thousand plus guests including expats and Vietnamese, government officials, foreign missions and other business chambers in Ho Chi Minh City.
Diwali or Deepavali, also known as ‘The Festival of Lights,’ is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated every year.
It is one of the most sacred festivals for Hindus and is widely celebrated across the country.
The festival signifies the victory of light over darkness or good over evil.
The preparations for Diwali start weeks before the festival date, and the rituals typically extend over a five-day period.
The main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu calendar month Kartika (between mid-October and mid-November).
Besides India, Diwali is also widely celebrated in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia, Mauritius and other countries with a Hindu population.
The Diwali Gala 2016 will be held at GEM Center in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, on November 5.
