Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien on Saturday established a new record in the qualification round of the women’s 400m individual medley event at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, clocking 4 minutes 43.93 seconds.

She will compete in the final round the same day at 18:53 pm (Vietnam time).

It was Vien who set up the women’s 400m individual medley record at 4 minutes 46.16 seconds at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.

Besides Vien, four other Vietnamese swimmers have already booked their places to compete in the finals this evening.

Hoang Quy Phuoc and Tran Duy Khoi will compete in the finals of the men’s 200m freestyle and men’s 100m backstroke respectively.

Phan Gia Man will swim in the men’s 200m breaststroke and Le Thi My Thao in the women’s 800m freestyle.

Other hopefuls of Vietnam who have secured their places in the finals today include Hoang Le Thanh Thuy in the women’s 3m springboard, Phan Thi Bich Ha and Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc in the women’s 20km walk, Vo Xuan Vinh and Nguyen Thanh Ngung in the men’s 20km walk, Nguyen Dinh Loc in the men’s 66kg judo category, and Bui Minh Quan in the men’s 81kg judo event.

Now, Vietnam ranks second on the medal tally of the ongoing multi-sport SEA Games, with four gold medals, one silver, and five bronzes.

The host Singapore is standing atop with 10 golds, four silvers, and seven bronzes.

The 2015 SEA Games opened on Friday and will last until June 16.
