A Vietnamese firm has received local authorities’ approval to develop what it claims will be the world’s longest zip-line system at the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, home to the renowned Son Doong Cave.

Travel firm Phu Sa Do Co. has got the green-light from the administration of the north-central province of Quang Binh for its project, to be built on a 35 hectare mountainous area in the national park.

The zip-line connects the Nuoc Mooc stream to the entrance of the Toi (Darkness) Cave, running 3.5km above the Chay River.

Quang Binh-based Phu Sa Do said the zip-line is capable of serving 1,000 tourists a day, adding that the project will also feature other adventure games, including kayaking through waterfalls and mountain climbing

Atop of the zip-line poles will sit several ‘observatories’ for tourists to observe the natural and wildlife in the national park. The observation can even be made at night using special night-vision binoculars.

The complex is expected to cost VND300 billion (US$13.22 million), scheduled to open in the third quarter of next year.

The developer said the project will contribute some VND20 billion (S$881,057) to Quang Binh state revenue on an annual basis.

Phu Sa Do chairman Nguyen Quang Hai said the tourism resources at Phong Nha-Ke Bang have yet to be fully taken advantage of.

“The tourism products here are not diverse enough as most of them are about cave exploration,” Hai said.

“The zip-line will offer a new chance for tourists, especially foreign holidaymakers, to explore and experience the Phong Nha forests.”

Hai underlined that the company prioritizes the protection of the natural resources and landscapes during its project development.

“We will also strictly follow all requirements in related to environment from the province’s administration,” he said.
