More than 1,500 people gathered at Nguyen Hue Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday to participate in the 3rd International Day of Yoga held by the Consulate General of India with the support of local authorities.

The program led by an Indian Yoga teacher was covered live on HTV Sports and its YouTube channel.

Speaking at the event, Smita Pant, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City said that the popularity of Yoga in the city demonstrated people’s commitment to health, wellness and wholesome living.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish, who participated in last year’s International Day of Yoga in the southern city, also expressed his delight at the popularity of Yoga in Ho Chi Minh City.

He added that this year’s event coincided with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between India and Vietnam.

Last year, the Consulate General of India gave a number of scholarships to Vietnamese Yoga instructors for studying Yoga in India.
