A female scooter rider was killed in a traffic accident on Monday in southern Vietnam after she tumbled due to a surprise car door.

The car in question was parked on the motorcycle-only side of the street in Binh Duong Province.

The victim has been identified as Binh Duong resident Huynh Bao Ngoc, 26.

The accident occurred on Phan Dinh Phung Street in Thuan An Town at around 2:00 pm.

According to eyewitness accounts, Ngoc was commuting on the street heading for the provincial Thu Dau Mot City when the car parked ahead of her suddenly had its driver’s door opened.

Surprised by the sudden car door, Ngoc lost balance and fell off her scooter onto the street packed with incoming traffic.

A bus moving in the opposite direction could not stop in time and ran over Ngoc, killing her on the spot.

According to the police, Phan Dinh Phung Street is a two-way street for motorcycles but only allows cars in one direction.

The car involved in the accident was parked on the side that was off-limits to cars, police said.
