The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in downtown Ho Chi Minh City launched a veterinary center for pets and domestic animals on Monday morning, announcing that the center will offer free check-ups to all animals until the end of this month.
Aside from giving medical services to common pets, the center provides treatment for wild animals kept by local residents.
From Monday to Sunday this week, the center will offer free-of-charge services including deworming, ear cleaning, nail trimming, rabies vaccinations, and anal gland treatments to all animals.
For the rest of the month, all health check-ups will be given at no charge to any animal brought in by members of the public.
On Monday morning, residents took various animals, including squirrels, to the newly-opened center for check-ups.
Established in 1864, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is home to more than 2,500 trees and over 2,000 animals from 135 species, including rare creatures like the crested argus, douc langur, yellow-cheeked gibbon, Asian golden cat, and clouded leopard.
In recent years, the zoo has celebrated several milestones, including the successful breeding of rare and endangered animals in captivity, such as tigers and hippos.
