An employee of a textile company in Ho Chi Minh City has reported seeing maggot wriggling in his dish on Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened at the textile firm in Thu Duc District at around 12:00 pm, when a worker spotted the whitish worm crawling on a piece of pork in his meal.
He then reported the issue to the firm’s board of directors.
According to a manager, the company has signed a contract of 800 servings for its staff, each worth VND13,000 (US$0.57), provided by a food service business called Thanh Huy in Di An Town, Binh Duong Province, since 2013.
“Two weeks ago, a worker also reported spotting helminthes in his fried fish dish,” another staff said.
“No way! They [the workers] just exaggerated,” a representative of the caterer told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters, rejecting reports that this was the third time workers had spotted such organisms in their meal.
Mentioning the latest issue, the representative of the food service agency said that the maggot could crawl out from the chilly that the worker added to the meal or from the sauce.
“All the food processing of our company strictly follows food safety and hygiene principles,” the representative insisted, adding that the supplier also provides meals for other companies.
In June, news about unhygienic food went viral following student complaints that the food sold in a canteen in the dorm of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City was tainted with maggots. The cafeteria was shut down then.
