Vessel KDB Darulehsan of the Royal Brunei Navy with 70 officers and crew members on board arrived in the northern port city of Hai Phong on Tuesday, starting a four-day visit to Vietnam. The naval guests, led by the ship’s captain, Major Willie bin Padan, were welcomed at the port by Colonel Dinh The Cuong, Deputy Chief of the Vietnamese Naval Staff, and representatives of the High Command of the Vietnam People’s Navy, the city People’s Committee, the local Department of Foreign Affairs, and some other agencies. At a reception for the guests at the Naval Headquarters in Hai Phong, Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Ninh, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, highly appreciated the visit, saying it will contribute to strengthening the friendship, cooperation, mutual understanding, and trust between the two countries’ armies and peoples. He suggested that the two navies increase cooperation and share experience in building naval forces, military skills, logistics, and techniques, as well as boost exchanges between young naval officers of the two countries.  For his part, Major Willie bin Padan, thanked the local authorities and the Vietnamese naval officers for their warm welcome. He also voiced his hope that the naval forces of the two countries will have a chance to join a drill at sea and exchange experience.  The guests will stay in Vietnam for four days, during which they will meet the leaders of the city People’s Committee, visit the Naval High Command, receive Vietnamese naval officers who are slated to take a tour of the ship, and hold exchanges on board the vessel.  They will also play volleyball and futsal with Vietnamese naval officers and soldiers, and pay a visit to attractions in the city. This is the first visit to Vietnam by a Bruneian naval ship, in line with the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation signed between the two countries in December 2013.
