-- Following a cruise ship overturn in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on June 4, Vo Quoc Hung, 44, and Nguyen Ngoc Quan, 25, who were operators of the vessel, have been detained for violating water traffic safety regulations, police affirmed on Friday afternoon.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved a plan to build the new Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in District 9. With the investment capital of VND4 trillion (US$179.6 million), the new station will cover an area of 16 hectares.

-- Police in the southern province of Dong Nai on Friday arrested two suspects for carrying drugs while traveling by train. The two brought with them 10 pouches of drug, weighing one kilogram each, from Hanoi to Bien Hoa City, the capital of Dong Nai.  

-- According to a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper source, the body of Tran Quang Khai, the missing pilot from the fighter jet that crashed on Tuesday morning, was found by a local fisher on Friday evening at a location 33 nautical miles off the north-central province of Thanh Hoa.

-- Search is still underway for the nine people on board the Vietnamese coast guard aircraft CASA-212 8983, which went down on Thursday while searching for Khai.

-- The People’s Committee in Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta said on Friday that two local firms have been fined a combined VND1.3 billion ($58,396) for releasing untreated waste into the environment.

-- Regarding the upcoming inauguration of a Chinese paper factory in Hau Giang Province, located in the Mekong Delta, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has requested the government to closely inspect the facility’s wastewater treating system in order to protect fishery resources in the Hau River.

-- Takehiko Nakao, president of the Asian Development Bank, on Friday pledged to continue providing support for Vietnam by offering a governmental loan worth $1 billion per year and establishing a cooperative strategy for the 2016-20 period.
