Tuoi Tre recommends some events you might want to take a look at for the last weekend of the year 2013
Hanoi
- The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents will screen the two movies “Once” and “A Very Long Engagement” at 7:30pm on December 27 and 2pm on December 28 respectively. The center is located at 51 Tran Hung Dao Street. Entrance is free.
- The art festival “Queer Forever!” focusing on images of homosexual and transgender people in Vietnamese contemporary cinema will hold its last days until December 29. The event is taking place at Nhà Sàn Collective, 3rd floor, House A at 9 Tran Thanh Tong Street; Goethe-Institut at 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street and Manzi Art Space at 14 Phan Huy Ich Street.
- The Vincom Mega Mall Times City in Hanoi, one of Vietnam’s largest underground shopping complexes, which also boasts the country’s biggest aquarium, is now open to visitors. The 4,000m2 aquarium is one of the highlights of the 200,000 m2 complex, which is located at 458 Minh Khai, Hai Ba Trung district.
Ho Chi Minh City
- “Cinema Paradiso,” the 1988 Italian film which won the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 1989 Academy Awards will be screened for free at Hoa Sen University at 7:30pm on December 27. The school is at 8 Nguyen van Trang Street in District 1.
- The 2013 Rockstorm festival will land in the city on December 28 after sweeping through Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, and Bien Hoa. The festival brings together Swedish rock band Andromeda and several well-known local bands. The 2013 Rockstorm in HCMC will kick off at 4:30pm on December 28 at Military Zone 7 Stadium in Tan Binh District.
- Mikhail Samarsky, a young Russian literature talent, whose acclaimed novel “A rainbow for a friend”’s Vietnamese translation was released a week ago, is joining a host of exchanges and activities to help the local visually-impaired people. Several of the exchanges are admission free.
- Kings and key figures of the Nguyen dynasty (1802 – 1945), the country’s last monarchy reign, are highlighted at the art exhibit which is running in the city until Jan 3, 2014. The exhibit is going on at Craig Thomas Gallery, 27i Tran Nhat Duat, District 1.
Nationwide
- An exhibit titled “Art offerings on Da Lat’s 120th anniversary” is running in Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong until Dec 31. The exhibit, which is running at XQ Da Lat Hand-embroidery workshop, 258 Mai Anh Dao, showcases some 100 artworks in lacquer, oil, iron pen, installation, photography and woodblocks.
- The Da Lat Culture Week will kick off tonight on December 27 at Lam Vien Square in Da Lat. The event features a flower display, flower market, street performances, wine display and many outdoor activities. It will gather 1,700 artisans and artists across the country and is expected to welcome 200,000 visitors.
