Police have arrested a man who had been filmed attacking a female car passenger with a helmet on the street in southern Vietnam last month.

After allegedly involved in a collision with the car in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province, the man cracked the vehicle’s windshield before hitting the passenger with his helmet, according to a video viral on Facebook.

Bien Hoa police said on Wednesday that they had apprehended local resident Ngo Trong Tam, 24, on charges of property destruction.

Tam was identified as the male attacker in the 46-second footage uploaded to Facebook, which captured a scuffle on June 25 on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street in Bien Hoa.

In the clip, Tam could be seen repeatedly charging at a young woman and hitting her on the head with a helmet in his hand, while his motorbike was parked in front of the woman’s car.

Another woman, allegedly Tam’s acquaintance, tried in vain to calm him down.

According to police officers, Tam was riding his motorbike on Cach Mang Thang Tam when he was involved in a slight collision with a car driven by Nguyen The Khai, 68, with his relative Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, 27, in the passenger seat.

As Khai refused to stop for damage assessment, Tam chased after the car and eventually caught up, parking his motorbike in front of the car and throwing insults at the driver.

Tam used his helmet to crack the car’s windshield, demanding that Khai get out for some ‘words.’

Seeing the driver in trouble, Ha stepped out of the car with an intention to sort things out, only to be abruptly hit on the head multiple times by Tam with his helmet, leaving her with slight injuries.

Tam fled the scene after Khai and Ha reported the assault to police officers. He had been on the run until his arrest on Wednesday.
