Vietnamese police have prosecuted and detained six people in Hanoi on charges of “conspiring against the people’s government.”

The Investigative Security Agency under Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security announced on Sunday that it had prosecuted and made the arrests of six suspects involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government.

Hanoi resident Nguyen Van Dai, 48, the alleged mastermind behind the attempted coup, and his co-conspirator Le Thu Ha, 35, have been in custody since 2015.

Four other members of the plot are Pham Van Troi, 45, Nguyen Trung Ton, 45, Truong Minh Duc, 57, and Nguyen Bac Truyen, 49, who were also arrested recently.

Troi is a Hanoi resident, while Ton resides in north-central Thanh Hoa Province and Duc and Truyen come from Ho Chi Minh City, according to the police.

The group has been prosecuted and detained following an ongoing investigation into the case of “Nguyen Van Dai and accomplices working to topple the people’s government."

They were arrested on charges of “conspiring against the people’s government.”
