Ho Chi Minh City authorities will construct four new bridges in several districts next year in an effort to improve the city’s traffic systems, the Management Board of the HCMC Urban Upgrading Project has said.

The World Bank will finance the cost of construction of the bridges, which is estimated to be about US$40 million, said Le Thanh Liem, director of the board.

The new traffic facilities will include the Kieu Bridge linking District 1 and Phu Nhuan District, the Le Van Si Bridge in District 3, the Hau Giang Bridge in District 6, and the Bong Bridge which will connect District 1 and Binh Thanh District.

Work on the bridges is expected to start next year and be completed in 2014.

The new bridges will help streamline traffic and ease congestion on many routes in the above-mentioned districts, the board said.
