At 8:30 pm Tuesday two young men suddenly stopped their motorbike at a house on Nguyen Thai Binh Street, Tan Binh District, when one of them rushed into the house and snatched a laptop from a resisting girl, a daughter of the house’s owner, Tran Thanh Nga, police reported.
After seizing the machine, the robber rushed out of the house and escaped along with his accomplice on their bike.
The girl shouted for help and her relatives ran after the men, who were speeding away, but then collided with two other motorbikes, causing them to fall down on the ground. Yet both of the robbers got up and ran away, leaving their vehicle behind.
Police were called to the scene and they seized the motorbike as evidence and a clue in the investigation to search for the robbers.
As previously reported, police in the same district detained a laptop snatcher who killed his victim and injured a police captain who chased him on Monday.
28-year-old Cao Xuan Lap was arrested after he used a knife to stab 22-year-old Hoang Ngoc Tri and injured police captain Vo Sy Hoang, from the Tan Phu District Police.
He had snatched a laptop from Tri who was travelling on a motorbike on Hoang Hoa Tham Street.
Tri was taken to My Duc Hospital in the district but died soon after due to severe injuries to his heart. Meanwhile, Hoang has recovered from two serious stab wounds and is being further treated at Cho Ray Hospital.
Investigators said that Lap was previously convicted of robbery and he was held in police custody in 2006.
