The bodies of two Cambodian fisherwomen who fell into the sea when their lightless junk collided with a Vietnamese fishing boat on Thursday have been recovered in Vietnam’s waters.

The two bodies were found off Ha Tien Town in the southern province of Kien Giang on Friday, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC) said.

Earlier on October 16, the fishing junk, which had no light on board, was docking in an area about six nautical miles southwest of Ha Tien when a collision with Vietnamese fishing boat KG 94134 TS from Kien Giang happened.

Three Cambodians aboard the junk, including a man and two women, fell into the sea following the accident.

Crew members of the Vietnamese boat tried their best to rescue the Cambodians but they could save the man only, whereas the two women went missing.

The crew immediately reported the incident to the provincial rescue and search agency who then kept the Vietnam MRCC informed of the collision.

The Vietnam MRCC used a rescue ship to cooperate with another fishing boat from Kien Giang to search for the victims.

The first body was found at 3:05 pm and the other at 3:35 pm roughly 12 nautical miles west of Ha Tien on Friday.

The cause of the collision is still not known.
