-- Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City yesterday had a meeting with over 440 artists and writers as part of the celebration of Reunification Day (April 30).

-- Vietnam and Cambodia yesterday reached an agreement to repair and upgrade the statues of friendship in Phnom Penh and other major cities. Vietnam will pay for the work.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday received Nobuyuki Hirano, chairman of the Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, and said he highly appreciated its financial aid for Japanese enterprises to invest in industrial production, energy, and infrastructure in Vietnam.

-- Vietnam will make a 10 percent cutback in staff at state-owned agencies from now till 2021.

-- Hundreds of hectares of crops in Don Duong District and Da Lat City of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong were damaged by a hailstorm on Monday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City is capable of supplying 25,000 cubic meters of clean water a day to the neighboring province of Long An. Now, the total capacity of water supply in the city is 2.39 million cubic meters a day.

-- Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, vice chief of the general staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, has said that two pilots of two Su-22 warplanes that crashed last Thursday in the waters between Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan Provinces can hardly survive.

-- Farmers in Cam Phuc Bac Ward of Cam Ranh District in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa blocked National Highway 1 on Monday evening with dead fish and shrimp to protest the dredging of a sea traffic route that has allegedly damaged their aquaculture.

-- Property firm Vingroup wants to buy the rights to use the railways in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

-- The government has planned to sell state-owned shares at the Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Sabeco) to reduce its holdings from 89 percent now to 36 percent.

-- Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam has committed financial violations involving VND507 billion (US$23.6 million) in taxation.

-- The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has assigned the Department of Transport to mull over the proposal of Hai Au Company to launch aerial tours in the city using seaplanes.
