HANOI, March 11 -- State utility Vietnam Electricity group (EVN) said it had signed a contract with a consortium including South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co and Japan's Mitsubishi Corp to build a coal-fired power plant.

EVN did not give a value for the deal, but sources with knowledge of the matter said it was worth $650 million.

The consortium signing the engineering, procurement and construction contract on Thursday for the Vinh Tan 4 extension plant also included EVN subsidiary PECC2 and Vietnamese firm Pacific Corporation, EVN said in a statement.

The 600-megawatt facility, one of the four plants in Vinh Tan power complex in the southern province of Binh Thuan and which will use imported coal, is designed to generate 3.6 billion kilowatt hour per year when operational from late 2019, EVN said.
