An international guitar festival will be held for the second time in Ho Chi Minh City this week, featuring both local talents and world famous artists.
The Saigon International Guitar Festival will take place from November 11 to 15 at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music at 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.
The event will boast six international guitarists, two of whom – Jérémy Jouve from France and Anton Baranov from Russia – were winners of the GFA International Concert Artist Competition in 2003 and 2013, respectively.
Other guests will be Rene Izquierdo, associate professor of guitar at the University of Wisconsin; Kozo Tate, winner of the Guitar Foundation of Japan Contest in 1975; Padet Netpakdee, first-prize winner of the Thailand International Guitar Competition in 2009; and Nguyen Thanh Hang, a French artist of Vietnamese origin.
Five potential young guitarists from the host country, including Ngo Kien Tai, Vo Xuan Quang, Le Ngoc Nien, Tran Quang Huy, and Nguyen Duy Quoc Anh, will perform at 8:00 pm on November 12.
The festival was held for the first time in the city from November 12 to 16 last year.
It presented beautifully programmed concerts by some of the greatest guitarists from the U.S., Italy, Malaysia, Iceland, and the Philippines.
The 2015 fest, which will kick off at 8:00 pm on November 11 and close at 5:30 pm on November 15, will have exchanges, seminars and workshops on learning to play the guitar, introducing lessons about guitar techniques for beginners and basic skills for players.
Audiences can buy tickets directly at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music or via ticketbox.vn.
