Society:

-- Asia Injury Prevention Foundation in collaboration with the Traffic Safety Committee in Dong Nai province has donated 7,000 helmets to students at a local school.

-- Four grade-10 female students in Ha Long city in the northern province of Quang Ninh were crushed and killed by a truck on Tuesday. It was reported that prior to the accident, the motorcycle they were riding collided with a bicycle and the students on board fell to the ground.

-- Authorities in Da Lat central highlands city have planted water lilies and released 500 kilograms of Hypophthalmichthys into waters of Xuan Huong Lake in an effort to prevent and kill blue algae that causes the water pollution.

-- More and more child marriages have been discovered in the Mekong Delta region, according to a Tuoi Tre investigation.

-- Nguyen Phuoc Thanh, 39, in Da Nang central city has been officially charged with murder for setting a local woman on fire. The woman died at a hospital because she had suffered burns to 95 percent of her body.

-- Vietnam has reported its third human death due to bird flu. Recently, a 12-year-old girl in Thanh Hoa central province has just died of H1N1.

-- A policeman in Van Giang district in Hung Yen northern province has conveyed apologies and compensated two reporters from the Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) for beating them in Van Giang land eviction in April, 2012.

Politics:

-- Defense Minister General Phung Quang Thanh on Tuesday received a delegation of war veterans from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, who are visiting Vietnam at the invitation of the defense ministry, a VNA report says.

-- President Truong Tan Sang and the Acting Trade Representative of the US, Ambassador Demetrios James Marantis said at a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday that they believed Vietnam and the US will soon reach an agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Sports:
