Watch out for these ‘time bombs’ when you’re in Ho Chi Minh City

Unsafe air tanks are ubiquitously used by repairmen in Ho Chi Minh City at the moment even though many deaths have been caused by the explosions of the devices in recent years.

Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters have lately found many repairmen using home-made or second-hand air tanks connected to air compressors to inflate tires of vehicles, including automobiles and motorcycles.

“When being filled up with compressed air, it can be used for all day long,” a man who owns a vehicle repair shop on National Highway 1 in Binh Tan District, told Tuoi Tre, pointing his finger at a large home-made air tank, which he said had a 800-liter volume.
