-- Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had a meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Hanoi on Wednesday.

-- Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and China’s Guangdong Province discussed their future cooperation at a meeting during a visit by Hu Chunhua, Politburo member and Guangdong’s Party Committee Secretary on Wednesday.

-- A French couple died in a road accident that killed seven people and injured eight others on Wednesday. A long-haul bus rear-ended a water tanker on Trung Luong Expressway when the tanker was moving slowly along the road to water trees.

-- A fireworks display will be held on April 30 to celebrate Vietnam’s Reunification Day in Ho Chi Minh City from 9:00 pm to 9:10 pm.

-- Three stores in the southern province of Bac Lieu have been fined VND7.5 million (US$357) each for hanging signboards written in English only.

-- Over 7,000 children have contracted measles in 61 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam, Nguyen Van Kinh, director of the Central Tropical Diseases Hospital, announced at a meeting on Wednesday.

-- Vietnamese police have initiated legal proceedings against three Taiwanese who are suspected of masterminding the transport of 600 bricks of heroin from Vietnam to Taiwan. The volume of heroin was seized at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan on November 17 last year.

-- Toyota Vietnam has announced it will recall 265 Hilux compact pickup trucks, produced from September 1 to December 8, 2009, as part of the Japanese automaker’s plan to recall its faulty vehicles globally.   

-- Vietnamese private carrier VietJetAir has said it will add 140 domestic flights a week in the upcoming summer when demand for travel is predicted to surge.

-- Vietnamese police have summoned two players of V-League side Vissai Ninh Binh to question them about an illegal betting case involving their teammates when they played against Malaysia’s Kelantan FA at the 2014 AFC Cup.
