-- Lawmakers proposed to make same-sex marriages and giving hired birth into laws at a conference with its main focus on amending marriage law held by the Ministry of Justice on April 16.

-- Implanting chips in taxis at major airports in Vietnam for identification is expected to be implemented soon in an effort to prevent fake taxis from cheating tourists, according to information released at a tourism conference on April 16. 

-- Extending visa waiver for foreigners tourists from 15 days to 30 days was also proposed at the above conference.

-- Vietnam’s Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang on Tuesday honored 40 crew members of NOSCO Marine Transport Company for rescuing 40 crewmen from Myanmar after their boat capsized in rough seas in December, 2012.

-- Police in the central highlands province of Bao Loc on April 12 chased after two young students who robbed a cell phone from a local woman and shot in the leg of one man. The duo later gave themselves up to police.

-- President Truong Tan Sang hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 16 for Chairman of Japan’s Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren) Shosuke Mori, who is on a working visit to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation between the two sides, according to a VNA report.

-- A get-together was held in Hanoi on April 16 to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the great historical Giron victory of Cuba (April 19, 1961-2013), according to a VNA report.

Sports:

-- Arsenal missed the chance to take another step towards securing a Champions League place after fellow European hopefuls Everton held firm in a lively 0-0 Premier League draw at the Emirates on Tuesday, according to a Reuters report.
