Vietnam has garnered five awards at an international photography competition by Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP).
The organizer announced on its website on Tuesday that the five prize winners were Le Minh Quoc, Do Hieu Liem, Loc Mai, Ngo Phuc Quang, and Tran Van Tuy.
Quoc, with his photo “Overcoming Sandhill” which depicts two female workers passing through the dunes in the morning, was among the winners in the Regional Winners category, while Liem, Mai, Quang, and Tuy were listed in the Honorable Mentions category.
The first prize went to Sujan Sarkar, an Indian photographer, depicting a family farming in a field in West Bengal.
“The picture brings so much beauty to the act of farming, which others might say is dirty or uncomfortable. The composition is stunning. Every inch of the picture says something and contributes to the global theme,” wrote the judges.
The winning photographer received a US$2,000 gift certificate for photography equipment and his winning photograph was displayed on the Times Square Jumbotron in New York City.
The contest attracted 3,300 entries submitted by amateur and professional photographers from 77 countries.
CGAP is a global partnership of 34 organizations that seek to advance financial inclusion.
Housed at the World Bank, it develops innovative solutions through practical research and active engagement with financial service providers, policymakers, and funders to enable approaches at scale.
